Description
Learners will join instructor Gerald Moore, a certified building official with over 25 years experience in the building inspection field as he takes new and experienced inspectors alike through the process of inspecting single and multi unit houses. In this first of a five part series, participants will learn the necessary soft skills and tactics for inspecting excavations, footings, and foundations. Using a combination of videos, checklists, and quizzes, the technical content of the building code is brought to life in real-world applications focusing on the inspection stages and process.

The ITS is Ontario's most comprehensive building inspector training suite, combining on-site walkthroughs with lessons, quizzes, and checklists that teach new inspectors the essentials, and reinforce best practices for those with experience.

When you purchase each course individually, you will have access for 45 days for each course. If you purchase the bundle, you can access all four courses for 180 days from the date of purchase.
All parts of the ITS course can be rewatched, quizzes retaken, etc. as many times as you’d like during the 45 or 180 day access period.
The total length of videos for each course is approx. 2-4 hours. That said, the feedback that we have received indicates that it takes about a full day to go through each course, as there are also quizzes, opportunities to go back and check content, etc.
There are no prerequisites for this course. It is our intention to design the course in a way that benefits participants of all experience levels. Both new and experience building inspectors will find value in this course.

Description
The process for issuing Unsafe orders, Emergency orders and warrants can be difficult based on the different scenarios presented to the Chief Building Official. This workshop will provide open discussion and experiences from past scenarios to give a better understanding of each order and discuss the benefits and drawbacks of each. This workshop is directed towards Chief Building Officials and practitioners enforcing the legal requirements of the Building Code Act.
Discussion surrounding Unsafe and Emergency orders and their inherent liabilities and benefits. Participants will participate in scenario-based learning focused on applying emergency orders, unsafe orders and apply for and execute warrants. The goal of this workshop is to provide the participant with the confidence to know when and how to issue the necessary orders to ensure compliance with the Ontario Building Code Act within your community. A resource manual is included which will provide the participant with a helpful guide to use on the job.

The 2024 Ontario Building Code becomes effective on January 1st, 2025, and contains thousands of changes from previous versions. This comprehensive course simplifies the changes as they relate to small buildings, focusing on Part 9 and related updates to other Parts.
In an interactive group setting, participants will be introduced to the changes, one topic at a time. Topics covered include changes to fire safety, egress and exiting, soil gas control, Part 9 structural, HVAC, and more. Practical activities will be included to reinforce understanding of the subject matter, and a digital copy of the course workbook will be provided for future reference.
